Part 9: Data Assets, Data Products, and Data Contracts¶
Part Overview¶
Part 9 addresses data asset management, data products, value assessment, and enterprise-wide sharing governance, enabling the data pipelines described in preceding parts to be further consolidated into organizational-level assets that are discoverable, reusable, and auditable.
Terminology Conventions¶
Throughout this part, the term "data asset" refers to a data object for which provenance, quality, access permissions, value, and lifecycle records are maintained. The term "data product" refers to a form of data asset that has defined users, service boundaries, SLAs, and delivery accountability. The term "data contract" refers to an agreement between a data producer and a data consumer covering schema, quality, permissions, and change management. The data asset catalog, data products, data marketplace, and sharing governance each address distinct governance subjects and must not be conflated with a simple data inventory.

Chapter 28 discusses data productization and data contracts, answering how producers and consumers collaborate stably. Chapter 29 moves into valuation and reuse mechanisms, explaining how data assets generate interpretable benefits. Chapter 30 closes with internal data markets and sharing governance, emphasizing authorization, audit, and responsibility boundaries.
